Well I am using ubuntu and while there are a quite a few things that
I am so annoyed with about it, I am finding it quite usable. There are
several things that I have needed to do for life, business, and school,
and I am able to accomplish all of them so far. I must say ubuntu is
very nice for a comprhensive alternative to windows. It takes some work
to figure out things to use alternativly compared to windows, but it is
quite doable.
One thing I find quite instersing is I need to
remote into a windows server 2003 machine well I didn’t want to boot up
my laptop just to do that one thing so I did a little bit of searching
and some asking around and found out about grdesktop. This is an
amazing app. I was able to easily remote into Windows Server 2003
perfectly from a gui interface. I was very much impressed.
For the most part everything that I have needed to do I have been able to accomplish through a GUI
which makes me very happy. The one problem though is you have to take a
lot of time to find little programs that come default in windows. I
currently don’t seem myself going back to windows on my desktop unless
when I do get my 64bit computer I can’t do anything, but so far from
everything I have seen there is plenty of support for 64bit.
Later
I will post up what I use in linux that correlates to an app in
windows. I know this is a bad thing to do because you shouldn’t look at
Linux as a direct comparison to Windows since they are two completely
different things, but what they hey why not.
