For those that have visited the site in the last few days or are subscribed and wondering about updates. I just want to let you know they are coming. I am a college student and finals crept up on me and are next week. I have 2 finals I am really studying for so that has taken a lot of time away from the blog, but my last final is on thursday so look for content by friday at the latest. I am wanting to take some time and write a couple of quick posts before then.
Please hang around i'm not gone.

For anyone that has checked my blog for the last several days may have noticed a lack of updates. Well that is because I got knocked sideways with a cold and couldn't think straight enough to write an effective blog post. I am happy to say though that things are looking up and I "seem" to be getting better.
Anyway stay tuned.

I currently work for a development company doing on call support and let me tell you there are 5 things I have learned that never seem to fail. While some of them are tiny bit of an exageration ;) sometimes it seems like it happens allllll the time.
Problem Patterns
Patterns don't really exist because once you find the pattern it immediatly changes before you can fix it.
Sleep
If you do support at night sleep is what you day-dream about as the problems know EXACTLY when you are about to sleep.
Reboots
Sometimes just rebooting the machine fixes the problem even when one "does" exist no matter the OS.
Remote Access
VPN into the office only works on the small issues, you know the 5 minute fixes. However, as soon as that HUGE 6 hours problem happens suddenly VPN isn't reliable if it even exists.
Life
You no longer know what a "life" is as you need to be available at a moments notice to fix the problem because as soon you aren't available immediatly you get 5 phone calls from the higher-ups asking why you aren't on it yet.

Something often wondered by most beginners is the "where am I on the
spectrum skill and ability in the world of development." Now that may
not be the exact question you ask, but it is a "general" question
asked. Basically, most people are curios as to where they stand. As
best as I can figure out here is what I have come up with to tell where
you can place yourself in skill level. (This is geared more toward .NET
devs)
1) noob
"What is a loop?"
2) Beginner
"Now I know the concepts of programming, but how do I use this OOP in the real world?"
3) Beginnermediate
"Oh, I can now use OOP to a point in real world applications and
can even use 3rd party libraries a bit, but there is still things I
don't understand about the language and the framework."
4) Intermediate
"I know all about the language and many topics to the point I can
write any app I need to with enough time and research, but i still have
yet to understand more advanced parts of multi-threading, async,
networking, etc...
This is just through intermediate level since I just am finally getting
comfortable in the beignnermediate level and can tell where to go next
I need to go next. Heh, I could be totally wrong and out of it on this.
So please if there are any suggestions on how to better refine this
please let me know so the information can get out there. And don't
forget to visit back often as I continue my quest to helping noobs and
beginners because so they don't have to go through some of the pains I
had to.

So, I didn’t blog yesterday and I should
have. I worked yesterday on my programming side and did some community
service stuff with the Boy Scouts.
On programming side I wrote a tutorial having to do with OOP and XNA you can see it at Ziggyware.com. So I have done some good things in the programming area
I have also thought of some interesting blog posts to make with regards
to programming we will see if I can make anything of them.
That
was yesterday. Today I worked a bit on the foreign language department
since I spent i’d say around 30 minutes working on my Japanese skills.
I think I have introductions down pretty well now and can move more
into basic conversation, finally. It will take time, but I have
confidence I’ll eventually be able to speak Japanese. Then I only have
3 other languages to learn at least.

In SQL 2000 and previous there was Northwind
which was your dummy database that you could use if you need to do
database stuff, but didn’t have a database. Well with the release of SQL 2005 they came out with a new Database called AdventureWorks. Problem is it doesn’t come with SQL Express so you have to find it. Well I finally found the link and am sharing it with you all.
Download: AdventureWorks Database
Edit: I just figured out it got moved yet again to Code Plex
