by percent20 5/18/2006 8:12:00 AM

Well You all might now that I am running 64bit windows and it works great. I don’t know of to many problems at all that I have had really.

I am staring to get into doing development for 64bit and to take my first step i turned Stickies for Windows into a native 64bit app last night I am going to work on making an installer for people so the creator can host that. I think in order to really get 64bit to take off more and more people need to develop apps for it.

I have 2 websites for you to take a look at they are really good 64bit resources.

http://extended64.com/
http://www.64advantage.com/

Windows x64 (64bit)

by percent20 5/11/2006 8:09:00 AM

Well I finally installed 64bit windows and got it to work. It was kind of quirky to install I had to install all the new drivers at once, including nvidia, in order for it to work.

One problem I am having is it is a bit sluggish and I have no idea why. I am going to see what I can do about determining the problem. I am not thinking it is anything major but it is stopping me from playing games right now so that isn’t very cool.

Scoble: Awnser to Comment

by percent20 8/2/2005 6:24:00 AM

I think the big thing is what is the monitoring services acutally monitoring?

What assurances can Microsoft give that it truely is only monitoring what they say?

I think those 2 questions are good and would answer quite a few things, in my opinion. I think they are braod enough yet specific enough.

On a side note I am new to blogging and how I am using it conversation wise and other things. Am I using it correctly?

Regards and Keep up the good work on Channel 9 it is one of my favorite sites espeically since I am wanting to work for Microsoft someday.

Scoble: FUD regarding Vista

by percent20 8/1/2005 6:22:00 AM

This is meant as a question/statement to Robert Scoble at Microsoft.

Here lately there has been a lot of FUD regarding Windows Vista’s monitoring services.

The problem is quite a few people have posted blog posts saying that Microsoft will be monitoring all activity that you do. What people then perceive from that information is that Microsoft will be stealing your information and acting like “Big Brother.”

My question to you is. Is this true? Is there anyway you can shed some light on this subject? This uncertainty is pushing a lot of people away from Vista. I have done searches on the internet for a while now and most searches turn up FUD regarding the monitoring.

To me it is there to prevent piracy and that is all, but there is nothing confiming most people suspicions or denying it.

If you read this thanks for any response.

Specializing

by percent20 6/30/2005 5:52:00 AM

You know I was talking to Rob Howard after my interview with him and he gave me some good advice, which is the same as he said in the interview. I need to specialize in 3 main areas and become proficient in them. Once I am specialized in 3 areas, mainly, just add on something more, and it won't be that much harder.

I find this reasoning to be superb, but I have one problem with it. I don't know what to specialize in. I love to do all of it almost equally. I have determined however in order to be successful at data driven apps then I need to know how to access a database very well. So I do know I need to specialize in at least data access.

So from there where do I go? I need to know at least a little bit about everything, but I am lost at where to start. This is something I guess I need to figure out.

Linux (My Opinion)

by percent20 4/1/2005 5:24:00 AM

This OS is good for geeks who know what they are doing and like to learn new things, and have the time to sit there and figure out all the little problems that may arise. Since most people grew up with windows the switch to Linux is relatively hard because people generally want to look at Linux as Windows and they generally fail.

Linux is also a good OS to learn how to use because I do see it becoming bigger and giving windows major competition, even more then apple. Linux does offer some benefits over Windows. Some of these are stability, security, and fun to learn. Linux is generally more stable then windows. I have run a Linux server for about 100 days, and it ran as good on the 100th day as it did on the 1st day. Windows however started to bog down after 20 to 25 days; at this point I could see a difference in performance. Linux is also more secure than windows because there are not as many viruses that are written for Linux. My opinion of why this is basically comes down to numbers and feelings towards Microsoft. (IMO)There are quite a few people that run Linux that do not like windows so they spend time learning how to exploit it. Linux, I think, is fun to learn. It takes a long time to learn to run it well, so to me I feel like I am never good at it so I keep trying to learn more, and I find it fascinating.

These are just a few of the bonuses about Linux
