Linux Use So far

by percent20 2/11/2006 8:03:00 AM

Well I am using ubuntu and while there are a quite a few things that I am so annoyed with about it, I am finding it quite usable. There are several things that I have needed to do for life, business, and school, and I am able to accomplish all of them so far. I must say ubuntu is very nice for a comprhensive alternative to windows. It takes some work to figure out things to use alternativly compared to windows, but it is quite doable.

One thing I find quite instersing is I need to remote into a windows server 2003 machine well I didn’t want to boot up my laptop just to do that one thing so I did a little bit of searching and some asking around and found out about grdesktop. This is an amazing app. I was able to easily remote into Windows Server 2003 perfectly from a gui interface. I was very much impressed.

For the most part everything that I have needed to do I have been able to accomplish through a GUI which makes me very happy. The one problem though is you have to take a lot of time to find little programs that come default in windows. I currently don’t seem myself going back to windows on my desktop unless when I do get my 64bit computer I can’t do anything, but so far from everything I have seen there is plenty of support for 64bit.

Later I will post up what I use in linux that correlates to an app in windows. I know this is a bad thing to do because you shouldn’t look at Linux as a direct comparison to Windows since they are two completely different things, but what they hey why not.

Structure equals Success

by percent20 2/8/2006 8:00:00 AM

I have been thinking why is it last year around this time was I able to be successful at working, side projects, school, and losing weight. Also why is it so hard for me to do that now.

Well in my thoughts I have come to the conclusion that it has to do with structure. Last year everything was highly strucutred and I was pretty much able to bank on exactly what was going to happen there were no curve balls. For example, I would get up everyday monday through friday and had to be at Tulsa Technology Center by 8:00. Then I would go to class after TTC to Tulsa Community College. From there I would go to work at the hostpital. Everyday the same thing nothing different. Nothing out of the ordianry. Even once I was done with TCC i still have TTC and work. Everything was predictable same schedule same routine everyday so it was easy to work with it.

Well, now my life is so crazy and out wack that I can’t find any symmatry in life to stick to. The only thing constant is my class schedule, but after that I have no structure due to large amounts of time that can be shifted based on what I need to get done. This leads to the problem of being able to push things here and there which can really hurt any goals that require high amount of structure.

So in conlcustion if I ever want to get anything done I really need to sit down plan out every day of what I need to do and when for how long. Then I need to follow it and build up a routine that way I can be successful again. They say if you want something done ask a busy person. Well I need to become that person so I can get things done better.

Java Class

by percent20 2/2/2006 7:58:00 AM

Please excuse the pun ;)

I must say I had some aprehension before going into my java class because I really wanted to focus on .NET and C# more than Java. However, now that I am in my class I am thoroughly enjoying it. I am haveing to actually slow down and learn what is going on with classes, methods, and objects. For example I didn’t realize that a static method was one that can be called without useing an object of that class it is in.

Anyway back to class. :)
